I had to look up what “usted puede hacerlo” meant, google assures me it means “you can do it”.
Out seven weeks it is strange, I don’t notice her absence as much because I don’t live at home, but I do miss all the phonecalls we used to have. I was reminiscing yesterday how it would often take a full day just trying to get in contact with her. I would ring while she was still in bed, she would ring me back when I was in a lecture, I’d ring her back when she was at work and then by the time we finally got hold of each other we would forget what we were ringing for.
A short email from her this week and a note! Next week P-day will be on Wednesday as she is going to the Temple, so you can still email as normal but you won’t get any replies/group email until Wednesday.
Okay so anyone who knows me knows I HATE spicy food and I honestly
cannot eat it.
I mean I frequently wuss out of eating pepperoni pizza because it’s too spicy.
I’m the kind of Hermana that eats plain at nandos. I. Hate. Spicy. Food.
So todayyyyy we went to a restaurant to eat spicy burgers. It’s a big
challenge and if you do it you get a shirt and then they put your
photo on the wall of fame. So we went with all of our district to do
it! All 6 of us!
She does hate spicy food with a passion, hopefully she will get used to it now and we can eat hot curries together when she gets back haha. Although she doesn’t say whether she succeeded or not she did send a picture of the shirt you win, it might be hers though I suspect it was probably one of the others who won, she is a massive wuss with spicy food!
Some more photos!
For some reason some of the photos come out really small and bad quality I’m not sure why, they appear like that in my email!
Anyway adios for now, next update will be WEDNESDAY not Monday!
It’s only taken six weeks but I think she is getting the hang of group emails and pictures as this week we got another great update from her! Even better I had to correct barely any of it, her English was really good this email.
So this week she says:
So this week was was good. It’s been very hard but good. It was cold to start off with but it is really heating up something chronic today! We hiked up a mountain in Toledo and looked round some sword shops, there is one here that sells the sword of Laban and captain Moroni. Like it says it on the swords and then it’s says HLJ (haz Lo justo/choose the right) and then has the Spain Madrid mission logo. He sells lots because many missionaries buy them there. They are the real deal and cost about €90 and then he posts them to your home address with UPS, for some more money. It’s super cool.
This is me and my companion Hermana Jimenez at the top of our hike! We went with the Hermanas from barrio 5, the elders from our district and then some more elders! So it was a fun trip and definitely worth the while.
Spain also won some football game here or something and so people have been super celebrating which has been fun right outside our window ahah!
Toledo is a really old and very beautiful Spanish city.
We had a good week teaching our investigators and working with the less actives, they are so wonderful and we had lots of success street contacting. It’s sooo hot here that he afternoons are really exhausting but the members and our amigos/investigators always feed us and give us drinks when we stop by which helps loads. We made empanadas this week with some of the members and they were so tasty I need the recipe but they don’t weigh things out here they just kind of guess quantities in a kind of mas o menos way of cooking what works really well for them but I would totally fail at to be honest!
Every time I meet an American they want me to imitate an American accent or pronounce words in English because they think it’s funny and when I phone another set of missionaries they always speak to me In English as opposed to Spanish to enjoy my accent it’s weird.
The work is hard but it is the lords work and nobody said it would be easy! But it’s so rewarding when you see people making these changes in their lives for good and you can see them becoming happier each time you visit, it’s a rewarding work!
Also I want to talk about this poster:
The world has already been changed by Jesus Christ and his Atonement, Im just here to help people to know it. If You want to change the world turn to Christ, this used to be a motivation for me but now it reminds me to be humble.
Also here is a bonus picture of sassy elder Sasso and his companion elder Hendrix who is going to work on the Disney cruise ship, they came with us to Toledo, they are in our district in barrio 9 as well:
Love Hermana Liddicott
And now you lucky people some short bonus material from the email she sent me!
The ward is nice and so are our investigators…Today we are going to Toledo and I will send more photos later but here’s a drawings from my comp.
She also asked me to make her a CD of church music like EFY and stuff because she finds it really hard exercising to MoTab haha!
And now some bonus pictures!
Here she is having a meal with her district and ward mission leader Jesus. I will say that when I read the email the picture hadn’t loaded and I misread it as “I had dinner with Jesus” haha.
Since starting Louisa’s blog I know have a job so though I’ll try and get the posts up on Mondays they may often not get published until Tuesdays now!
A friend of mine and Louisa’s and Jemima’s left for her mission before Louisa went out and so as a result her group email doesn’t go to Louisa’s missionary address. So I forward them to her.
She writes THE most amazing group emails! So detailed and descriptive, really lovely to read. This week when I forwarded it to Louisa I prefaced it with:
This is what a group email looks like 😉
Am I ashamed of “guilt”-tripping her? Not in the slightest because this week ladies and gentlemen we got a corker! You may thank me later! (Just in case some of you reading this think I’m the world’s worst sister it is all in good humour haha! An ongoing joke which began before her mission, she was always terrible at replying to anything haha)
It’s week five in the Madrid Mission and Louisa has this to say:
Woke my companion up last night because I was teaching the second lesson in Spanish in my sleep awkward hahaa!
It’s okay though and the member are so friendly it feels a lot like Wakefield ward here we all need to visit after I come home from my mission!
Today we went to the very cente or Madrid and here is photographic proof.
We have 2 investigators with dates to be baptised on July 9th and we
have am ace new investigator he is called Fran and is 19 add is so
prepared for the gospel so we’ll see what happens and there are so
many less actives here too! We are teaching a bakery owner called
William and he gives us so much fresh bread! They have really nice
sweet breads here as well and they are lushhhhh!
I will be here until the middle of August for definite but will most
likely be her for a transfer or two more so possibly up until sometime
in November and I love it here! It is so hot here I don’t no how I am
going to stand in august.
I am learning to be patient and we go running every other day and it is torture but my companion loves running so I haven’t the heart to tell her how much I dread
it…although I May soon as I can’t take it forever…
People are impressed with ,y level of Spanish but it is soooo hard to
understand the different accents as everyone is s from different parts
of South America in barrio 9. In one of the days that was really hard I just started crying in the middle of a lesson which was so awkward but it’s okay I’m learning yo
have more and more faith everyday.
Question, did Jesus have the veil like we do? We think yes but?
Also mum can you send me the recipient for Yorkshire puddings, in cups
because we don’t have weighing scales….and for brownies and cheesy
bean tortillas. We eat with members most days at lunch and tea so we
rarely have to cook which is nice but it means we eat a lot of rice
and chicken. Everyone here works on Sunday’s so it is so hard to get our
investigators to come to church but we have 2 investigators with dates
to be baptised!!
Best story of the week? One of the elders went missing from another ward for like 6 hours so we had to wear normal clothes take off the badge and go hunting in the metro, it was ace and I felt like a spy! They found him and all was good in the end.
Please correct my grammar and make me sound smart
Needless to say I have not corrected her grammar or made her sound smart ahh it is so funny she’s going over to Spanish and losing all her power over English 😉
Can’t believe she sleep-talked the second discussion! That is absolutely brilliant! She used to sleep-talk at home sometimes but just random stuff but this is brilliant. Next time I hope she sleep walks 😉
The Elder going missing is a bit odd, I keep reading about missionaries disappearing, I’m not sure how if I’m honest but I’m glad he was found safe! Imaging Louisa as a spy though made me laugh haha I don’t think she would be very good at it.
She promised photos, she has delivered and she has sent photos!
Monday is email day and I think I turned into Mrs Weasley from the second Harry Potter. The day crept on and still no email from Louisa.
“Beds empty! No note! Car gone — could have crashed — out of my mind with worry — did you care? — never, as long as I’ve lived — you wait until your father gets home, we never had trouble like this from Bill or Charlie or Percy —”
Effectively what I was saying haha. “She’s been out for nearly a month now, her first week in an area and we get nothing!!!”.
We did get an email in the end, just a short one though, she hasn’t been issued with an iPad yet so they had to go to the chapel and they didn’t get very long. Wahh I’m impatient for a proper long email!
We got a little bit of information though! Her companion Ana Jimenez is the girlfriend of Carlos who Louisa and Jemima met in Spain last year and who Josh Adams (Horbury Ward) helped to convert. Small world.
Some snippets for you
I am LOVING the work it is such an honor and blessing to do so I pray every day for the lord to make my heart stronger
Glad she is still enjoying it!
Would love some cold English weather right now haha!
Bizarrely the girl who was always freezing in England whatever the temperature is now begging some cold weather, not that we could send it as we are enjoying some rather glorious weather right now!
Important notice for all – letters and parcels are all still going to the same address!
She says she is finally starting to tan!
Hopefully we will get some more next week and I will try not to go full on Mrs Weasley if she doesn’t write a longer one haha. Ah it’s just because I miss her and want to know what she is up to!
Most importantly though she is still alive so I suppose I should be satisfied with that 😉
Louisa has her first area assigned to her! Her mission president emailed the family to let us know where she was going which was really nice!
She has been assigned to “Barrio 9” with Hermana Jimenez.
This is the map of the districts in the Madrid mission number nine is “Moncloa-Aravaca” on the left hand side underneath the large orange blob. When she emailed Monday she wanted to go to the Canary Islands, she didn’t get assigned there this time but maybe on another transfer is she really behaves herself haha!
She spent yesterday with the mission president and his wife getting to know them and had some training and orientation on the Madrid mission. Sister Pack sent us some pictures that they had taken on their lunch break with her.
It was great to have a little update on where she was going and who her companion would be. It will be exciting to hear from her on Monday to see how her new area is and about the people she meets!
